The Birds Nest
WHO WE ARE
The Birds Nest has evolved into a fantastic, international music and arts venue while retaining its original South London flavour. Located at the end of Creekside and on the borders of Greenwich and Deptford, the pub is a hub of artists and musicians. Live music varies from folk to hardcore punk, Blues to Ska, established well known bands, to up-and-coming local talent. Art exhibitions are held monthly at our own gallery, named "Undercurrents Gallery" and showcasing emergent, underground and more established visual artists. The Birds Nest always has quality music and art. You will also find a wide choice of delicious burgers and meals at affordable prices and served throughout the day.
Formerly The Oxford Arms the pub has hosted such big names as Squeeze and Dire Straits and continues today to bring top bands to Deptford. Further back in the 16th century, the pub was a centre for arts. Deptford Theatre was joined to the pub, the playwright, Christopher Marlowe was connected to this theatre.
Presently the pub has live music and performances Wednesday to Sunday, each week. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are always booked up with crowd-pulling bands.
The Birds Nest host series of regular nights that proved popular, such as an Open Mic every Wednesdays, where musicians can come down and play their songs for a pint. An Hip Hop Open Mic night, named "Higher Learning", every first Sunday of each month.
Sinema City, a night of emerging alternative pop and rock, on every last Saturday.
Undercurrents Gallery's monthly exhibitions present different groups of visual artists, during a special opening night every first Friday of the month, including free dinner buffet, live music and DJs. Each new exhibition is open for viewing everyday for the duration of the month.
A popular feature of the pub is its happy hour. Monday to Friday 5pm to 7pm all pints, bottles and glasses of wine are only £2.50 each.
